Who We Are

We are a Local Gathering of Christians on God’s beautiful St. George Island, FL who are desirous of knowing Christ fully, dedicated to teaching the Bible truthfully and determined to love one another faithfully.

We are Protestant - Scripture alone is our authority.  Christ alone is our hope and our Lord.  Salvation is through faith alone.  Salvation is by grace alone.  All glory belongs to God alone.

We are Baptists – We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. We adhere to the doctrinal statement as published in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. https://bfm.sbc.net/bfm2000/ These doctrinal truths include the following core beliefs:  • The Deity of Jesus Christ  • The Substitutional Death of Jesus  • The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus from the Grave  • Salvation by Faith Alone Through Grace Alone  • Inerrancy and Completeness of Scripture  • The Sinfulness of Man  • The Virgin Birth of Jesus  • The Triune Existence of God  • Eternal Security of the Believer  • God's Judgment of Man for Sin  • Eternal Damnation for People who Reject Christ  • Imminent Return of Christ to Earth

We are Congregational- We believe the Lord gives authority to the local church for its own governance under the leadership of pastors/elders/overseers.

What We Believe

About God - We believe there is only One living God, who eternally exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Each person is same in essence and attributes, equal in power and glory.

About the Bible - We believe the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments comprise the Inspired Word of God. The Bible is true and trustworthy and will not lead one astray. The Bible is God’s authoritative Word and sufficient guide for faith and practice.

About Man - We believe Mankind is God’s unique Creation crowned with glory and honor as His image bearers. Perfect fellowship with God has been disrupted through the entrance of sin, therefore man is now subject to divine wrath. Mankind is under the domination of sin and is thus hostile toward God. Man is hopelessly lost apart from salvation solely found only in Jesus Christ. Christ paid the penalty for sin in full by dying on the cross at Calvary for all who come to Him in faith. Through faith alone in Christ’s completed work of redemption a man is freed from sin’s domination and made a new creature. In Christ, sin’s penalty has been paid and its power has been broken, yet sin’s presence remains. Immediately upon salvation the Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit equipping him to gain continuous victory over sin in the body through sanctification. The Holy Spirit is the Believer’s guarantee that God will complete the great work he began. We believe the purpose for mankind’s existence is ultimately to reflect the Glory of God and to enjoy the person of God through relationship with Him forever. Peace, contentment, satisfaction and enduring joy are results of living according to divine design.

About the Church - We believe the Church’s primary occupation is ongoing Discipleship and Proclamation of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ, beginning in the home then extending through the church to the world.

Church Covenant: By God's grace we have entered into covenant relationship with God based on Christ's redemptive work alone. We are therefore in covenant with one another through our common faith and familial connection to God. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the growth of His church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote the church's prosperity in the Gospel through true worship, including the proper observation of the ordinances, expository preaching, and the practice of Biblical church discipline. We are committed to contributing cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor; and the spread of the Gospel to the nations. We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired and infallible Word of God as the foundational basis and sole authority of our beliefs. FBCSGI holds to and affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as a true statement of faith.

Purpose and Mission

Our purpose is to glorify God through the proclamation of the Gospel and the demonstration of good works only made possible through the completed work of redemption of Jesus Christ in which we have entered into by grace through faith. Our continuing mission is to exist as a body of worshippers of the Triune God, growing in experiential knowledge of Him, in genuine meaningful fellowship with one another, and in obedience to the commands of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit working within us. Our aim is Christlikeness in our daily living through total commitment of life, person and possessions to the lordship of Christ.
